More Galley Work...

Not too much to say about the continuing galley work. The pics say most of it...

One thing worth noting, the stove will sit on an oak cutting board that will slide out revealing a storage bin beneath the stove that will contain various pots and pans. Cool, huh?

More Galley Refit...

Tonight I continued with the galley refit.

Because I have a CookMate double burner non-pressurized portable stove, I am customizing the galley to accommodate it rather than a full size marine stove with oven.

Of course, I thought I would be finished by now, but I keep forgetting that every project on a boat takes three times longer than expected and cost twice as much as planned. (I think that is an ancient maritime law or something).

Anyway, it's coming along nicely and I should be finished with it... when I'm finished with it.

The Galley... (continued)

Today I made more headway with the galley. So far, I'm pleased with the way it's coming out. I have to wait 24 hours for the tile adhesive to dry and pick up more materials to finish it. I still have the grout to do but, again, have to wait for the tile cement to dry. A couple of more days of work and it should be ready to cook.

"How Do You Eat An Elephant?"

I saw a question on the web this past week that made me think about refitting a boat. The question was, "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer, "One bite at a time." It reminded me of refitting a boat because, in my case, it's a BIG ELEPHANT!

While preparing to refit/rework/make useable the galley, I stepped back on the grate that sits beneath the companionway ladder, (I had moved the ladder), and the wood offsets that hold the grate in place gave way. Upon closer inspection, I realized I had some rotten wood on the plywood sole.

"One bite at a time." I stopped the galley project to repair the offsets and ended up ripping out all the old flooring down to the plywood to determine the extent of the damage. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the companionway area and I was able to temporarily repair the area and will finish it next week with penetrating epoxy I'll order from Jamestown Distributors.

Today, "
One bite at a time..." - Back to the galley.

This elephant is pretty big!

"The Energizer's Bypassed Like a Christmas Tree, So Don't Give Me Too Many Bumps."

The title to this post comes Star Trek II when Kirk asks Scotty if they can get inside and handle the Mutara Nebula to even the odds against Khan. Scotty's reply was, "The energizer's bypassed like a Christmas tree, so don't give me too many bumps." (It sort of fits when you see the video).

After a wait of five weeks, a used part engine providing a high pressure fuel pump, rebuild of the leaky fuel return line, and a little help from Dennis Dodge, (thanks Dennis), the engine is running. Mind you, it's not perfect, (the #3 fuel injector tube is leaking fuel at the injector), but she is running.

Any advice as to how to best stop a leaky fuel line at the injector seat would be greatly appreciated.

"A Tall Ship and a Star to Steer Her by..."

The hour was set... the crane was late... and late... then the call, flat tire. Finally, the crane arrived and at that very moment, the bottom busted out! This was not a sprinkle or a rain or even a heavy rain...it was a deluge! (I'm sure I saw animals lining up two by two at the bigger boats in the yard.)

The clock is running and I was worried, then a number of other boat-yard sailors showed up in foul weather gear, and said, "Let's do it!" (BTW, foul weather gear is now on my shopping list).

Within 45 minutes, she was standing tall again... for the first time in years! (A very special day today!)

A special thanks to my boat-yard/marina friends: David, Chris, Benjamin, Sherri, Joseph, Jack, and Dice! You guys are the best!

Now, all I need is a star to steer her by... and a little more refitting, ...LOL.

Trimwork

Today was all about the trimwork in the main cabin. There's not a lot to say about trimwork... measure twice, cut once. My fingers are a nice Red Oak stain but that's just the way I fly.
