Bad News...

After two hours of trying, the engine would not start. Though the engine would kick over with starting spray and WD40, no fuel was getting to the injectors. The high pressure fuel pump is not working. Also, two of the t-tubes at the fuel injectors that provide return fuel were broken.

Major setback! Checking possibilities for rebuilding the fuel pump on Monday, but regardless, this is a let down. Any ideas/suggestions would be welcomed.

I did finish the painting of one side of the rudder, I'll finish the other side next week.

Thanks for stopping by.

(Fuji's concern for the day...must be nice!)

Fair seas and God bless!

  1. Isn't there a song saying something like, "one step forward, two steps back"? I don't know. Too bad about the fuel pump. Hopefully that won't set you back too much. The rudder is turning out well.

    1. Thanks Dan. The cost of parts is unreal, hoping I can have it rebuilt. The rudder is looking good though...roll & tip.

    2. Yeah, I've seen the prices for parts too and very thankful I haven't needed any.

  2. I would start by fixing the the fuel lines and check the lift pump . And install a electric pump , The elec. pump should be before the primary filter . Turn on the elec. pump and bleed at all the right places , the last place is the injectors . Hope that helps !

  3. David , I was just wondering why do you think the high press. pump is bad ?

    1. The diesel guy that couldn't get it to start, (no fuel to the injectors), said it was the injector pump... and I don't know enough about diesels yet to dispute it. I have question the diagnosis though since no lines were bled, and once it would not crank, that was his conclusion.

I am going to get a second opinion but I personally do not know enough (YET) to figure this out on my own.
